I've heard of guys using the manila for emergency gaskets on ATVs and stuff, but as I was cutting it out I really questioned the durability of it myself. I won't be using it. I've pretty much decided to turn the cylinder base to get better transfer timings, and then raise the exhaust. One cylinder will be proper, and the other will be retarded high durations. I'll try the latter first.

Maybe you'll get lucky and not have to raise the exhaust.
When you lower the cylinder, blowdown time goes up
slightly. Maybe you'll gain a degree or so. |

Lowering the cylinder will increase the timing of the cylinder. I think you will be best of with raising the exhaust to 196 and use a squish that fits that cylinder. Somewhere in the range of 0,5 - 0,7 mm.
Maybe it won't produce 20 hp, but it will still be driveable and quick enough! |

My lathe is almost done. The base of the cylinder will be turned to get the transfer duration right around 130 degrees or so, and I'll work from there. I'm also going to have to re-profile the head to make it work right.
I also ordered an inner rotor ignition that I will make an adapter plate for so that it fits the Super 9. It's speedfreak's old one:
I've decided that once I have turned the base of the cylinder I'm going to leave the timings alone (should be plenty high for now) until I find an exhaust pipe solution. For the time being I'm going to have to run something less than ideal for the exhaust... I'm basically going to wait for the right deal to come along on a high-end Mina exhaust.

Dang, spent an hour going through this thread.
I'm thinking about picking up a Super9 too, but after seeing all of this work I might hold back.
Beautiful job on the detailing work though on this build. |

The Super 9 is a great scooter. The reason that you see me going through a lot of extra work on the engine, is because I'm attempting to push this past the typical street-use boundary that most of these engines see. They can be easily modified with a big bore cylinder, and some supporting modifications and will perform very well. A lot of the work (port mapping, reading durations, measuring, etc) is the same for 2 stroke tuning in general, not just this engine.
Having said that, your Minarelli engine is much easier to get to the state of tune that I'm seeking with my Super 9. The reason I'm going with a Super 9 is because it's different, and it's a challenge. I also love the bike! It's one of the best 50cc scooters introduced in the American market. Granted there are a lot of other LC scooters with Piaggio and Minarelli engines in Europe, but many of them never made it here.

Yeah, no kidding. I hate that I have so very little time to work on this. You should see the shop right now. I couldn't fit another scooter if I tried.

So true. I'd kill for an Aerox. |

An Aerox engine would be interesting for a Ruck. Throw disc brakes on the front and rear, it'd be unique at least. I'm sure others have done that too though.
You can find the Aerox here in the States, but they are very very far and few between. Most of them were not imported legally.

| I'd want to keep the Aerox as-is with the exception of adding a cylinder kit and other go fast parts. For now, I've got a couple of motors reserved for the Ruckus. |

Glad to hear you got a lot of work at your shop, that means you're successful and would need help soon and a bigger shop
All the best, |
