Nice, I like it !!!!!!!!!!!! Well done.
The exhaust, boost and transfers ports look huge for 49cc engine. What kind of timing number did you end up with after the porting work ? |

Wow! That's the only other sym I've seen that's been worked on, other than mine of course! Nice!
Show more about how you have your carb hooked up to that airbox and manifold, please! |

I ended up with 123 deg transfer 130 deg boost and 195 exhaust.
I will put photos of the carby inlet system shortly.
Thanks for the kind words there isn't much out there for a Red devil but if you think about it you can do alot with this very sweat handling scooter. |

Welcome, fellow racer!
Slowrider's Red Devil is insanely fast, & certainly kicks most 70CCer's arses out there on the track.
The suspension & handling are set up like a dream.

SWEET!
IS that the SYM horizontal engine? I've got to admit, the stock SYM horizontal block has some of the nicest flowing carters that I've seen out of the box. Hardly any work has to be done to "optimize it". One of my buddies has a SYM Jet Euro. I did some porting work on his stock cylinder to make it work better with his NExt-R exhaust.
Can you post more photos and details of the engine build? What size belt do you use?
It's very exciting for me to see some engine builds that are not Piaggio and minarelli. I love Piaggio and Mina engines both, but there's something more challenging about the SYM, Kymco, Honda, Morini, etc blocks that attracts me.
Good work man! Welcome to Scooter Invaison.
Ciao!

I didn't take many photo's of the internals during the build as this was at the time a wait and see engine, changes to our racing kept me from going to far with development.
The photo of the cylinder was of the last time i had it apart and i just went radical with the port timing and the result was awesome.
You wont like this but it runs a standard piston for now and it has recorded 11275rpm on the data logger, also the crank is original and already had 5600ks on it, and yes there is some movement in the crank now so it time to look at a freshenup.
I run a standard belt white malossi contast spring, malossi 250 honda clutch springs with lightened clutch shoes it cuts in at 6700 and lockup is at 8200rpm
The exhaust is a leo vince zx i have cut it open removed the baffle cone and changed the tuned length and it now makes power on another engine to 12400rpm very cheap exhaust and has made all the difference with this engine.
I made the inlet manifold to suit the carby its a 20.5 dellorto which is a tapered bore so the inlet manifold is 25mm internal diameter a little large.
I have run into trouble controlling mixtures with such a large carby and it has spiked at 1045degress f EGT ,now with the cooler months it could do with a 132main jet , it will work great if i finish the new BGM 70cc engine with ported cases, larger reed block and new transmission parts.
I will get some photo's of the intake system soon.
I have to agree that the standard cases are very nice and the only cases i have found from the factory that are painted inside and out with very smooth casting work. |

After looking and looking, I've only come across OEM quality replacement cranks from BGM and Sceed, I think, so what are you going to do about needing a new one?
I question the quality of those compared to the stock one from SYM, so maybe the best thing is to go with the same, especially since you've gotten what you have out of it! |

To be honest, the stock SYM crank looks pretty damned strong to me. You can always send an old crank to crankworks, and they'll freshen it up, add a better connecting rod, bearings, and thrust washer, stuff it if you want, etc. Any crank can be made into a performance crank by these guys.
I've seen Kymco crankshafts (very similar to SYM) with 15,000 + kilometers running big bore kits and all.
SLOWRIDER, thank you very much for sharing this information. Good to know!

Very nice and very impressive 49cc there !
I really like what you have done with it! Love the numbers!
I also like the airbox set-up! I have been thinking about doing something like that myself? Great to hear that with some work you got such good results out of a Leo! I too run my stock bottom-end up over 11,000 sometimes and its still there ! Not a SYM tho ! Maybe one day i will own one of these beauty,s |

Here are the pic's,
[img]
New look for nose cone.
[/img]
The mychron4 dash with last race data on screen.
Front fork with spring preload adjuster adapted into original fork, also internally revalved and heavy oil.
[/img]
The inlet system, original inlet manifold is around 4.9inches long, now 2 inch straighter entry and faster throttle responce.
Malossi RS24 rear shock good race shock or great street shock. 120/70/12 tire this is it, this disc dosen't work well on a bike but on a scooter its the best.[/img]

The best front dics around adapted off another SYM and very powerful, also has a 2.5 inch front rim the correct size for a 120/70/12 tire.

Malossi RS24 shock good race shock great road shock. |
