Man my head is swimming in math equations, building a 2 stroke engine takes alot of planning. This is not a plug n play type of build. Check and recheck.

That's the way It should be with every 2T engine....those really "well tuned" engines takes a lot of time and knowledge.

i would rather port a 2stroke any day over 4 stroke. Atleast with a 2T I can get a good port job with simple math. 4T is all pretty art work that can go wrong quick. Can you put a thiner base gasket on to get that trans timing down? Whats your squish right now? If you get that trans down you could stagger the main/aux boost........ If not dont stress 130.5 is pretty good.

You need more than simple math to do a good port job...2T porting can go wrong very easy, also good port job is art work too. Smile

well atleast with 2t you have somewhat of a guide line is what I was trying to say.

dio burnout. Have you checked your timings with your degree wheel? For me that is the most accurate way.

Well I finished up the cylinder, I am happy with the durations numbers. I sure hope it was worth all the work !!!!!

Trans tunnels, boost port, roof of exhaust port.

Exhaust port, Transfer edge chamfering

Exhaust port raised to 22.56mm from the top of the barrel.

New port map of cylinder porting work compared to stock port map.

The timing duration numbers are as follow with the deck set at .45mm above the deck.
Exhaust 192.1
Main transfers 131.1
Aux transfers 131.1
boost 133

Stock exhaust was 64 percent of bore, now its 71.2 percent of the bore Dia. I am a little nervous about this as Jennings recommends not to exceed 70 percent on one exhaust port. Bridge type ports can go bigger.

Also forgot to mention I lost a little on the transfers after chamfering the edges.

Thanks for the kind words and all the help over the last few months on this engine.Still more work to do.

Well pressured up the engine to check for any air leaks. Everything seems to be ok case has been holding 2PSI

Thanks for the kind words, my plans for this engine is to street it on the weekend in my Live Dio setup.

I will need to fabricate some engine mounts, because this setup is for an AF35 horizontal type engine. The Af18e is a vert type engine block. But my overall plan is to use both engines in this scooter. After I install the Af18e engine I want to build the Af35 into 117cc water cooled street machine. I just really enjoy building the engines as a hobby. I have a 4 stoke Dio for cruising around, and also a car for running the family around town.

O.K. ready to move on to the clutch system. I am going to make a parts store run this weekend and wanted to ask if anyone has any thoughts about a baseline setup.
Contra spring ? clutch spring ? torque drive ? also gear ratio ?

My plans are to run taller gears, but not sure how much taller ? I want this to be fast as hell of the line. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Jon M.

I'll be running 9:1 gears on my Dio, which should get me to 70 mph while still allowing some low end grunt. Here's a table of gears I've researched:

SR Set 12:42 (3.500) (12 to 1)
ZX Set 13:41 (3.153) (11 to 1)
SE50P 12:34 (2.833) (11 to 1)
Kitaco 15:42 (2.833) 305-1040300 (11 to 1)
Polini 16:32 (2.000) (7 to 1)

These are all primary gear setups meaning the primary shaft that is hooked up to the clutch and the larger toothed gear on the counter-shaft assembly are the pieces that get switched out.

For the 9:1 setup I had to order some parts from vtcycles in Hawaii. The big disc with all of the teeth on the final drive shaft gets switched out, and so does the smaller piece of the counter-shaft assembly.
