Installing a Buddyseat on your People 50

A step-by-step guide.

The Kymco People 50 is a great bike! One of the options available from Kymco for this scooter is the addition of a buddy seat. With the seat installed, you can fit a second rider. In this quick guide, we'll show you how to add a buddy seat to your scooter! It's fairly easy, and only takes 5 or 10 minutes to do.

We wanted to make the photos link to a larger view, but I messed up when resizing all of the pictures, and I don't have the original high-resolution ones. Still, the pictures below should help you get a general understanding of what is needed to do the job. :)

Your buddy seat should come with everything shown here. 7 bolts, a mounting rack, and a seat!
The first thing you'll want to do, is remove the 3 6mm socket head bolts that fasten the rear rack to the scooter. Quick, and easy!
Remove the rear luggage rack, and discard the triangular bracket that it sits on. If you think you may remove your buddy seat in the future, you may want to hold on to this. I love the buddy seat, so I won't be removing it, and I threw the silly triangle bracket away.
Now you will want to install the bracket that came with the buddy seat. This will require that you use the bolts that come with the seat, and not the ones that came off of the rack... the other bolts are too long. It is suggested that you fit all of the bolts loosely before tightening them.
Now you'll want to install your seat. There is a tab on the bottom of the buddy seat that hooks into the bar on the buddyseat rack. Slide the tab underneath the bar, and then your seat should be able to fit snugly on the rack.
Here is another view showing the tab and how it hooks under the bar.
When you have the tab locked into place properly, you can pivot your seat down against the rack, and install the special shoulder bolt that comes with the kit. It's a 10mm head, and installs very easily.
The only thing left to do, is re-install the luggage rack! Simply put the luggage rack on the back of the bracket, and put the 3 bolts in place. You may want to use a few washers underneath the seat if the bolts themselves don't quite do the job.
Here, you can see the double-stacked washers used underneath the seat in order to space the seat properly. The bolts supplied left just a little bit of play in the rack when installed without the washers. No big deal. :)
The finished product! The buddy seat not only adds functionality to your Kymco People 50, but it adds style and value to it as well!
